Honest, Dependable Work for Generations

On April 1, 1979, Roy and Roxanne Genson founded Genson Overhead Door. Roy, a Vietnam Veteran, grew up learning the trade from his father. Roxanne was a bookkeeper, so it was a perfect combination. The business was based in their home on Route 38 in Moravia, NY.

With a loan from a local bank, the first service/installation truck was purchased. A ladder rack and toolboxes were added. The first “RED” service truck was purchased in 1981, and a new warehouse was built. Later, Roy’s father, Lewis, joined the team as the companies’ sales representative. Through these early years, the company had 2-4 employees. In 1992, after graduating from college, sons Kevin and Greg Genson officially joined the family business.

They grew up working with their dad in the door business, with their first official job being painting. Since all garage doors in the early days were made of wood, they required a primer coat of paint prior to installation. For several years both were in the field as installers. As the company grew, Kevin and Greg moved over to the sales side of the business.

By 1999, the business had outgrown its Moravia location, so the company purchased a commercial building on Route 90 in Locke, NY. Our facility features a 12,000 square foot warehouse, offices, and showroom. It also includes two additional buildings to store our vehicle fleet and equipment. Kevin and Greg took over all of the company operations upon Roy’s retirement in 2015. Roxanne still works part-time.

Today, Genson Overhead Door, Incorporated, has a staff of 18 dedicated employees. Many have over 20 years of experience. The current fleet consists of 17 “RED” trucks, scissor lifts, trailers, and other specialty equipment. We provide garage door sales, service, and installations throughout Upstate NY and beyond. Annually, our crews complete over 3,000 jobs. In 2024, the company celebrated its 45th anniversary.
